TRYOUT FAQ

What happens at a tryout?

During tryouts, players will check in and be issued a number to wear and then participate in a warmup, drills, and scrimmages while coaches observe and evaluate.

What should my player bring to tryouts?

Players should wear a neutral color (white or gray are ideal) shirt without club affiliation. Players are required to wear shin guards. Cleats or turf shoes may be worn on Howard County turf fields. Players must also bring a water bottle and a soccer ball (2018-2014 - Size 4; 2013 and older - Size 5).

How are players evaluated?

Coaches will assess players for their physical, technical, and tactical soccer qualities. Additionally, we are looking for players who demonstrate leadership, display good sportsmanship, and play with a sense of teamwork.

How many tryouts do I need to attend?

Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryouts for their age group, however we understand that during this busy time of year some players will only be able to attend one session. Attendance at one session is sufficient to be eligible to receive an offer.

How will I find out if my child made a team?

Offers will be made on a rolling basis beginning as early as following the first tryout. Within a week of the final tryout for each age group, players will be notified if they did not make the team or receive a status update if the invitation process is ongoing. Ultimately every player will be notified if they made a team or were not selected.
